Alden Miller’s inviting yet practical interiors and her knack for striking, customized details have cemented her firm’s place in the San Francisco design world. Miller’s secret weapon, however, is her interest in other people. When she engages with a project, she does so with verve and genuine curiosity and allows the process to build organically. “I ask about the client’s values and listen for what defines them and how they want to live,” says the California native. A former ceramicist, Miller is big on the tactile. “We base designs in the relationship between natural materials and human experience,” she explains. “Everything starts there.”
