Laura Reoch, recently named a top Bay Area photographer by Marin magazine, has made a career of seeing beyond the veneer to capture a person’s substance and soul. “Most people instinctively hide in front of the camera,” says Reoch, “so I try to make them feel safe enough to reveal themselves.” It’s in this place—where outer features merge with inner life—that “everyone becomes beautiful and the best portraits happen,” she says. Her branding and lifestyle images resonate with the same emotional intelligence. Reoch adds, “Food, animals, products—it doesn’t matter. Photography is visual storytelling, and there’s always a deeper, more essential theme to reveal.”
