A cluster of artist-rehabilitated military buildings located just north of the Golden Gate Bridge in Marin County, the Headlands campus has been a place to explore the creative process and generate new ideas in a range of disciplines—such as visual art, performance, music, film, and writing—for more than 40 years. Its renowned residency, fellowships, exhibitions, and public programs nurture meaningful engagement with artmaking in real time and promote greater appreciation for art’s role in society. “We provide artists with the resources, space, time, and recognition to further their practices and careers, and support the rich and diverse arts ecosystem in the Bay Area and communities around the world,” says Executive Director Louisa Gloger.
For artists, we provide the space and time for transformative experiences in our stunning natural environment. For our greater community we offer a place to gather and support the creative process.
